There are very few things that I am worried about doing correctly, but getting my daughter’s ears pierced was one of them. Izzy, Oli and Brenda are here for a week visit and since Izzy arrived Ineke has been asking me if she can get her ears pierced like Izzy’s. We had talked about it a while back and I agreed but wasn’t sure if Ineke could be brave enough to handle the whole thing.
This morning, Brenda, her best friend Andrea, and the girls and I went for a lovely walk down 4th Avenue shopping. While we were out, I tried again to try to find a place, but to be honest, I’ve always been a bit leery of the sketchy drop-in esthetician shops in Vancouver where I once got a manicure and they cut my cuticle. After a couple of days, I ended up with a nasty infection that had to be seen by a doctor. While I had phoned around a bit and searched online for a suitable venue for ear piercing, it didn’t seem like there was anywhere to go.
My first choice back when she first asked me to get her ears done was Adrenaline. As it turns out, there is one on 4th just down from where we were. I think both Andrea and Brenda thought that I was crazy taking a 6 year-old into a bizarre tattoo and body piercing studio, but I really feel like these people are professionals. Piercing is all they do and they do it very well. Everything is religiously sterilized and it is serious business for them. When I asked if they do girl’s ears they said of course and, in fact, they even had a large jar of lollypops for kids!
After confirming that this is what Ineke really wanted to do, she picked out a very sparkly pair of studs. The girl carefully marked where the earrings would go, and before Ineke could even flinch, it was done. She even did both ears at the same time. When it was over, Ineke smiled and was absolutely tickled that her ears now had earrings. She was so brave and Izzy filmed the whole event on her iPod! I’m very proud! If I can figure out how to post the video tomorrow, I will do it but for now, here is our brave girl!!
